Working mothers, new mothers,
and mothers in general! All of them manage duties and responsibilities at both
work and home. Due to emotional and physical roadblocks, women often leave IT
jobs for the so-called “mother-friendly” jobs, such as schoolteacher, as it
helps them to be more available for their kids. This is a sad reality among
women in urban cities and towns in India.
What can be done to support
women? Being a woman, how can I empathize with and support other women in their
career journeys? I was going through these thoughts, researching on the internet,
and analyzing different colleagues subconsciously, when I came across this blog
on LinkedIn:
https://careers.publicissapient.com/life-at-ps/blog/3-ways-to-make-it-work-for-working-mothers
The above blog is a
compilation of Publicis Sapient employee reviews from women globally. It made
me realize that working mothers face challenges across the world in varying
degrees. Below are the areas in which women at PS shared their stories:
- Support: Personal support
along with professional life, goes a long way in any woman’s career
journey. I feel that having a support system at home and work is equally essential
to deal with emergencies and maintaining a work-life balance.
- Representation:
Representation of women leaders across the organization gives a positive
message that you are not alone. This helps create women role models across
career & life stages inside the organization. To me personally,
interacting with women leaders and learning from their journey has a greater
impact compared to a celebrity.
- Time Management: The
most important aspect of getting the work done is time management and
setting the right priorities. This is an important skill which can be mastered
after careful observations and consistent practice. As with years, your
life/work/ jobs keep changing. Hence, one should learn to manage their
priorities, with every new task addition or modification.
So, if you are a mother or thinking
of embarking on a motherhood journey, share this post with the working mothers
in your circle. Having read different people’s experiences is crucial, as it
broadens our thinking. You can also read the Publicis Sapient reviews for more
such stories and experiences of women working there.
